EARTH ON VENUS
Earth on Venus
Solo exhibition in Galeria Cozinha, FBAUP, Porto, 2020.
This exhibition marked the final point of my Master Thesis and also is a continuation of the science-fictional narrative I was aiming to develop in Extinction of a Planet (2020).
The space had behind a big panel that is entitled Abundance (2020). It depicts an abundant, bio diverse and fertile scenery of possible life forms on planet Venus. In front of thisĀ are hung eight textile masks, created throughout various travels I did in Portugal, each mask representing one of those places I visited.
I choose to leave enough space between the panel behind and the masks, so that the spectators were invited to “play” around with the masks, often using them as if there were wearing them.
In another smaller room was exhibited the book/object that is the result of my Master Thesis. It contains the theoretic part as well as many poetical, visual and practical preoccupations, that followed me throughout the research.
The book has the title: Diary of self-bestialization. Have a look at the project Master Thesis to see detailed pictures from the book as well as the video link.
In this room was also a sound installed, composed by Francisco Babo.
Photos from the exhibition were taken by Ophelie Kittel.
Listen to the “found tape after a vulcanoe eruption” from Francisco Babo, composed for the exhibition, while reading the textile book.
